Stunning authentic window made by Rainhill of Utley, salvaged from ‘Snaefell V’, built by Cammel Laird.
Beautiful windows. If you were salvaging gear from ship-breakers 30 years ago it would be this quality of window you would find coming off great ships. They were all thrown in the scrap back then though, except a small minority, and we found some!
Amongst all of the portholes we found were half a dozen of the square windows that were etched with the company emblem of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company. We were so impressed with the look of the decorative glass we decided to replicate the logo on some of the other portholes that came from the Snaefell V. Studying the original glass showed us that the original glass had been etched using a very elaborate and expensive process applying seven different types of acid treatment to the glass. We eventually found a couple of companies to try and apply the same process but the prices to do so were many hundreds of Pounds, far too expensive to be able to sell on. So we decided to implement the another conventional method of blast etching the glass, as you can see the results were very impressive.
Detail of serial numbers and makers name on the windows have been treated sensitively and not been polished out .
Having been through the process of adding the logo to the glass we have found that we now have the ability to reproduce any Shipping company emblem, or anything you want for that matter, and have it etched into the glass of your window. Please feel free to contact us about to discuss this process.
Of course we also have these windows in stock without the emblem in the glass, £325 +vat polished, £225 +vat unpolished please contact me for details of these great windows
